Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr., Chancellor of the Troy State University System, has announced that Mary Jarrett Moore, the Valedictorian of Bullock Memorial Class of 1996, is the recipient of the Scholar’s Award. This is an academic scholarship that provides full tuition, room, and board for a four-year period.

Mr. and Mrs. Clyde H. Smith announce the engagement of their daughter, Mary Elizabeth, to James Walter Chapman, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Chapman.
Fun in the water was last Thursday’s theme of the Green Thumb Garden Club. The gracious home of Mrs. Bill Kinney was the setting for a day of swimming, sun, and friendly chatter. The morning was climaxed by lunch on the patio. Mrs. Joseph Davis acted as co-hostess.
Among the students receiving Bachelor’s degrees from Troy State University on June 11 will be Randall Wade Hall, Thomas Frank Kelly, Mary June Reynolds, and Faye Annette Rotton.

Miss Nan Edwards arrived Monday evening from Macon, Ga., where she graduated with the Class of ‘46, majoring in Romance Languages, and is at home with her grandmother, Mrs. Thomas Edwards.
Supt. and Mrs. Cecil McNair and daughter, Josephine, of Union Springs, spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Cope.
Miss Grace Hatfield, who is working in Washington, is spending her vacation with the home folks.
Little Miss Joyce Cole of Union Springs spent the week-end with her cousin, Donald McGrady.
100 Years Ago - 1921
Baseball - Male and Female - the greatest attraction of the season. Friday, to-morrow, afternoon, at four o’clock, on the local diamond, Circle No. 1 of the Woman’s Auxiliary of the Presbyterian Church will stage a game of baseball, something new in Union Springs. The prettiest young women in the town will play and defeat the following gallant young gentlemen: T. R. Martin, Dr. S. C. Cowan, W. L. Lamar, J. B. Reid, W. W. Jordan, Ike Feagin Blue, Orlando Peacock, Willie Warren Cowan, Hobson Creswell, D. J. Howard, Dr. J. S. Cook, N. Tucker, C. L. Gholston, and Sam B. Wilson. Admission only 20 cents for grown-ups. All public School students and children only 10 cents. Can you miss this?
In the long list of the 145 graduates of the A. P. I. at Auburn, we note the name of Frank Madison Barnett of Fitzpatrick, as a graduate with honor, and Joel Daniel Feagin, of Union Springs, graduate with a degree of bachelor of science.
