Beth and Charles McCall of Union Springs, Alabama, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a surprise dinner cruise held June 17 on the Harriott II Riverboat in Montgomery. The event was hosted by their daughters, Penny McCall Stuart of Montgomery and Tammy McCall Thorpe of Madison. In attendance were over 70 of their closest friends and family. The guests came from all parts of the state for the gala event.

The Union Springs/Bullock County Chamber of Commerce sponsored a Microsoft Office Tips & Tricks Event on Tuesday. The program was held in the computer center of the Union Springs Elementary School.

On Tuesday, thirteen members of The Twentieth Century Club gathered at the beautiful Hill ‘n Dale home of Sandra and Jim Smith for their annual luncheon in celebration of an enjoyable and successful club year.

25 Years Ago - 1996

The Presbyterian and United Methodist Churches are jointly hosting Vacation Bible School again this year as they have in the past.

Mrs. John Fank Moorer and Frank Moorer enjoyed the day in Selma, AL Sunday. They went especially for the 100th Anniversary Celebration of the Central Baptist Church where Mr. and Mrs. John Framk Moorer were married almost 44 years ago.

Mrs. Willie Seal Foreman was honored on June 22, 1996, with a birthday party at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Willie Bell Allen. Mrs. Foreman reached the age of 93 on June 20, 1996.

50 Years Ago - 1971

Mr. and Mrs. Tompkins Evans of Shopton announce the marriage of their daughter, Mary Enola, to Donald L. Bozeman, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ira Lee Bozeman of Union Springs. The ceremony was performed at 8 p.m. July 2, 1971, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Comer Green by Dr. Austin Staples in the presence of the immediate families.

Richard Murray, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Murray, will conduct the singing during the revival services of Midway Baptist July 11-16.

Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Watts, Roger, and Larry, spent last Monday in Nashville with Mr. and Mrs. Herman Watts.

75 Years Ago - 1946

Probate Clerk L. W. Jinks and Mrs. Jinks spent last week in Atlanta, Ga., the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Charles C. Jinks, and enjoyed a most delightful visit with them.

Mr. and Mrs. Seymour Trammell are guests of the family of Mr. Lamar King.

The marriage of Miss Nannie Harriet Edwards and Mr. Richard Allen took place Wednesday, June 26, at a beautiful evening ceremony at the Methodist Church here.

Messrs. Ed Farrior and Henry Lee and William Pitt of Cecil left Thursday for their summer camp at Forget, Sask., Canada.

Mr. Jake Bishop and Mr. Ted Bishop left Tuesday for their camp at Carnduff, Sask., Canada.

100 Years Ago - 1921

Mr. Ewell Stroud came up from Troy to spend the Fourth with his father’s family.

Mr. Joe D. Ellis has moved his family from Thompson where they have resided for the past several years, and they will occupy the J. L. Pittman house on Miles Street. Mr. Ellis plans to continue his business at Thompson.

A beautiful morning party was that of Wednesday when Mrs. S. S. Ogletree entertained for her niece, Miss Adelaide Engram of Eufaula. Mrs. Ogletree was assisted in serving by Mrs. J. Frank Stroud and Miss Helen Stroud.
