Enola Bozeman, Patsy Gholston, and Kizzie May, members of the Chunnenuggee Public Garden Club, traveled to Hoover, Alabama to tour Aldridge Gardens.

The annual picnic of the Chunnenuggee Public Garden Club took place at the lovely country home of Louie and Barbara Cox on May 12, 2011.

25 Years Ago - 1996

Voters went to the polls Tuesday and nominated three Democratic candidates for local offices for the General Election. Johnny Adams and Alonza Ellis were nominated for seats on the Bullock County Commission and Mattie Coston was nominated for Place 1 on the Bullock County Board of Education.

Work crews were out at night last week restriping lines in the downtown part of Union Springs.

The Mid South School of Banking in Memphis, Tennessee recently announced the graduation of Diane L. Culpepper, Vice-President, American National Bank, Union Springs, Alabama.

John Seymour of Fitzpatrick was named to LaGrange College’s spring quarter dean’s list. He is the son of Jeff and Mary Seymour.

Tracy Marie Rodgers, daughter of Mattie Rodgers, received a Master of Education degree on June 1, 1996, during Auburn University at Montgomery’s Spring Commencement. Rodgers, who has a B.A. in Mass Communications, is a 1988 graduate of Bullock County High School.

50 Years Ago - 1971

The June meeting of the Helen Stuart Circle of the First Baptist Church met in the home of Mrs. Charlie Lott on Monday afternoon, June 28.

Dr. and Mrs. O. Emfinger left last Friday afternoon via jet from Birmingham for a week’s vacation in London and will spend one day in Paris. They will return on July 4.

Ann and Cephus Hendley attended the Mississippi-Alabama Photographers Convention in Montgomery this past weekend.

Miss Janet May has completed a course in Medical Assistance at Career Academy in New York, N. Y. this spring. She was valedictorian of her class. Her new residence Miami, Fla.

Mr. and Mrs. John Wesley Roberts announce the birth of a baby daughter, Pamela Jill, on Friday, June 25, at Baptist Hospital, Montgomery.

75 Years Ago - 1946

Mrs. Thomas Paulk is visiting her sisters, Mrs. C. M. Childs and Mrs. Mozelle Brabham, in Birmingham. While there she had the pleasure of seeing Starlight Opera’s presentation “Mile Modiste,” at Munger Nowl, Birmingham Southern.

Miss Jean Hawk, Bible school teacher, spent Friday with Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Paulk.

100 Years Ago - 1921

Quite a number of young people enjoyed a moon-light picnic on the lawn of Mrs. G. A. Tompkins, Thursday night, complimenting Misses Erin Johnson and Mary Jane Tomkins.

Mrs. W. W. Rainer, Jr., and children, of Selma, are the guests of the family of Mr. W. W. Rainer, Sr.

Rev. J. L. Marlow spent Tuesday in Eufaula.
