On Tuesday two deer ran into two different buildings in downtown Union Springs. One of the deer ran into the old Herald office, and the other ran into the window of a vacant room at Bullock County Hospital.
Mrs. Stacie King has been chosen as “Teacher of the Week” at South Highlands.
Victory was celebrated Tuesday at Abercrombie Point Restaurant in Clayton when Billy Beasley won Senate District 28!!

Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced today that Claire Austin, former Assistant State Finance Director, today joined his staff as Special Administrative Assistant for Legislative and Public Affairs.
Buddy and Jean Watts, Mary Nell Driggers, Kay Driggers and her friend, Ron, from Auburn, Mark Hinson, Bear May and Thomas and Neal May all traveled to Birmingham Friday night in the stormy weather and sat out in the rain to watch Tyler Watts as quarterback for the Pelham High School Panters.
50 Years Ago - 1970
H. O. (Red) Williams, who won the Democratic nomination of his party in the primary, defeated his two opponents, James T. (Big Jim) Spurlin, Republican, and Waldon (Pete) Cole, running as an independent, to become the first black sheriff in the history of Bullock County in last Tuesday’s General Election.
Roger Watts walked off with the $5.00 Football Contest money this week.
Weekend visitors of Mrs. Beulah Sims were her daughter, Mrs. Frank Bayles and Mr. Bayles and little granddaughters, Viva, Betsy, and Pam. While here Viva celebrated her 8th birthday.
75 Years Ago - 1945
Mr. and Mrs. Livingston Paulk have heard from their son, Pvt. Glenn M. Paulk. He left the States on October 8th, and after a fifteen day’s voyage on the Pacific Ocean landed at Yokohama, Oct. 23rd.
Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Currington entertained their friends with a delicious barbecue supper on October 26. Seventy-five people enjoyed this barbecue with all the fixings. Guests from out of the community were Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Pugh and children, of Union Springs; Mr. and Mrs. Hobson Creswell and grandson of Enon Farms; Mr. Will Ritch and son of Shopton; and Mrs. Bessie Park, of Tuscaloosa. After supper, the children dressed in costumes enjoyed a Halloween party. Mrs. Thomas Paulk and Miss Kathleen Allen assisted the hostess in entertaining the children with stories, songs, and games.
Mrs. Robert Duncan has returned from her summer home, in the mountains of Virginia, and will spend the winter at her home in Peachburg.
