Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Pugh were united in Holy Matrimony on June 5, 2012. Judge Johnny Harold Williamson performed the ceremony in the courthouse at 10:00 a.m.
Ms. Eula Eleanor (Creswell) Summerhill became a member of the Chunnenuggee Garden Club in 1974. Born June 16, 1919, she died on May 26, 2012. All garden club members were present and served as honorary pallbearers at her funeral.

Baby Austin Dillion Ledbetter, son of Phillip M. Ledbetter and Stephanie M. Ledbetter, has been hospitalized since birth on March 21, 1997. Weighing seven pounds four ounces at birth, the baby had heart problems that required a transplant if he was to survive. Baby Austin underwent a heart transplant on June 4 at UAB in Birmingham.
The annual Youth Day Program of the First Missionary Baptist Church of Union Springs will be held on June 15, 1997, at 2:30 p.m. Guest speaker will be Mr. Myron Penn, a student at Cumberland School of Law in Birmingham. Music will be provided by Mr. Eric Penn and the Spiritual Aries of Titus, Alabama. Rev. Gary Lewis is Pastor. The public is invited.
Mr. and Mrs. Willie D. Walker and Mr. and Mrs. Jerry T. Baldwin, Sr. announced the forthcoming marriage of their children, Jerry T. Baldwin, Jr., and Stacy C. Walker. The wedding will be an event on July 5 at St. John African Methodist Episcopal Church at four o’clock in the evening.
Odean B. Arrington of Union Springs, Alabama, announces the engagement of her daughter, Jona Ruth Arrington, to Robert Joseph Steelman of Montgomery, Alabama, son of Mrs. Frances Steelman and the late Mr. William Eugene Steelman of Scottsboro, Alabama. The bride-elect is also the daughter of the late Johnny B. Arrington of Union Springs, Alabama. The marriage will take place on August 9, 1997, in Montgomery, Alabama.

Kathryn Adams has been chosen to represent Macon Academy at the 1972 session of Girls State to be held at Huntingdon College campus in Montgomery June 4-10.
Thirty-five young men and women from Bullock Memorial School finished their high school careers this week and stepped out on the threshold of life to start their careers.
Brig. Gen. Jeanne M. Holm, Director of Women in the Air Force (WAF), will be one of the top speakers at the second annual seminar on Managerial Development For Women to be held at the University of Alabama on June 2-3. Gen. Holm is the first woman to be promoted to the rank of general in the U.S. Air Force.

The Union Springs Cowikee Mills Team won their game from Eufaula on the batter’s home grounds last Sunday by the score of 8 to 3. The two teams will play here next Sunday afternoon, June 15.
Mr. and Mrs. Sam Cohn left Sunday for New Orleans to attend the graduation of their son, Sidney, from Tulane University. After graduation, he will enjoy a western tour before beginning his internship at Charity Hospital in New Orleans.

Mrs. J. M. Orr was hostess on Friday afternoon to the John Cowper Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution for the closing meeting of another successful year.
Mr. Hugh Foster, whose connection with The Exchange National Bank of Montgomery was noted last winter, has moved his household goods to Montgomery. Both Mr. and Mrs. Foster, who have extensive interests here, intend to make weekly trips to Union Springs.
