The Blazers women softball team will depart Friday, July 26, 1996 at 10:00 a.m. from Union Springs and will travel to Tuscaloosa, Alabama to play in the State Class “C” women’s softball tournament.

Mary Duffy Montgomery made the Dean’s List for the spring quarter at Auburn University. She is the daughter of Ginger and Jimmy Montgomery of Union Springs, Alabama.

S-Sgt. John L. Harris, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jospehine Harris of Route 3, Union Springs, AL., was promoted to Staff Sergeant effective July 1, 1971. S-Sgt. Harris is assigned to the U.S. Embassy in Manila, Philippines.

The six children of Mrs. E. M. Hall, Union Springs, Ala., and Wm. C. Hall of Columbus, Ga. were fortunate to meet in a family reunion at the home of their mother after being apart for approximately 22 years.

Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Kindred announce the forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Susie Pearl to Taylor Hough, Jr., son of Mrs. Laurie Hough and the late Mr. Taylor Hough, Sr. of Union Springs.

Mrs. W. H. Garner was hostess to the Martha Ellis Society.

At the regular meeting of the City Council, held on Monday night, Mr. J. W. Springer, Sr., was elected as a member of the City Board of Education. He will fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Mr. W. W. Jordan, Sr.

Miss Jean Thomas, of Montgomery, is spending this week as the guest of Miss Mariannie Beckham, at Aberfoil, and Irene Orr in this city.

Mr. C. H. Norton, Jr., has accepted a position in the First National Bank.

Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Williams and daughters will spend next week at the Seabreeze Hotel, at Panama City Beach, Fla.

100 Years Ago - 1921

The Edith Mangum Class will entertain W. S. Harrison Class of the Methodist Sunday School, at a barbecue Thursday, at the Ball Park.

The families of Mr. and Mrs. F. H. Anderson and Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Branscomb enjoyed a chicken roast on Tuesday evening in the yard adjoining their homes.

Master Joe D. Ellis, Jr., who has been visiting his Aunt, Mrs. A. L. Astin, in Atlanta, returned home Sunday night.

Hon. Henry P. White has tendered his resignation as one of the assistant Attorneys-General of Alabama and has done so, to the regret of his numerous friends throughout the state, because of ill health.
