Over the past weekend Bullock County hosted the 2020 3A Area Basketball Tournament.

The three other schools participated in the tournament are St. James, Montgomery Academy, and Pike Road. The first matchup for Bullock County was on Thursday night against the Trojans of St. James.

Recently the Bullock County took down the Trojans 60-46 as the final score. This time was not much different.

The Hornets used the same formula that resulted into the victory against the Trojans in the previous game.

Bullock County dominating defense which turned into fast break scoring. Points in the paint was another method of their domination on the hardwood.

It was some balance from the home team from inside the lane to mid-range with nine different players scoring in double digits. Thursday’s score was almost identical as the last matchup as the Hornets again took down St. James 62-46 as the final on the scoreboard.

Saturday the Hornets took on the Pike Road High School Patriots.

This was the rematch of last years’ area tournament championship. The game really had an intensity of a championship game. Both teams were hungry for the big win.

Both teams displayed quality defensive pressure for their opponents making it difficult to score.

In the first half the score was 25-23 with Bullock County in the lead. In the second half the intensity went up another level. With great scoring from Jalaceon Green, the Hornets were able to contest with the Patriots fast pace game.

Late in the fourth quarter the Hornets had some late game turnovers that kept Pike Road in the game.

With the turnovers caused by Bullock County the Patriots had transition scoring and free throws to put them ahead. With seventeen seconds to go the Hornets was down three points. Guard Dakari Anthony’s 3pt attempt was blocked.

The Hornets fouled sending the Patriots to the line. After the missed free throw Bullock County grabbed the rebound with three seconds giving them another chance to tie the game up.

The ball was inbounded to Luke Sturdivant for the last second three which was off. As a result, the Patriots downed the Hornets 51-48 as the final.
