The Union Springs City Council met on August 16, 2021, to select an Interim Recreation Director due to the retirement of Courtney Woodfaulk.
Mayor Roderick Clark nominated John King to be the Interim Recreation Director and the city council unanimously approved the decision.
King has worked as Maintenance Tech and Program Coordinator for the past seven years.
King stated, “I am thankful for the opportunity to serve as the Interim Director.”
Football safety protocol was discussed during the city council meeting regarding Covid-19.
Councilwoman Faye Mason Thorpe didn’t feel comfortable about the young children playing football because of the rise in covid.
Councilman Derrick Harris made a motion to continue football with safety precautions in place seconded by Councilman Eugene Faulk. Councilman Louis Murray stated because of covid he believes it is a bad idea to play football this year.
The vote was 2-3 with Harris and Faulk voting yes and Thorpe, Pugh, and Murray voting no regarding playing recreation football this year.
