Thursday, the South Highland Middle School Hornets faced the Warriors of Russell County Middle School.

It was a packed home game with family, friends and the high school football team showed up to support the young squad.

Russell County started the game with a strong running game.

With their rushing attack, the Warriors struck first with a touchdown (6-0 Russell County).

It seemed like Russell County was going to dominate early, but penalties were costly.

The Hornets built momentum with their own running game but could not capitalize.

In the second half, it was a hard-fought game. The Hornets’ defense played much better. Neither team was able to put points on the board. The Warriors eventually scored their second touchdown on the ground having the Hornets fall 12-0 as the final score.

Key players for the Hornets were Lakeldric Pugh, Cordell Davis, and Dwiquillius Howard.

Pugh ran the ball with ease being able to hit the outside with speed and elusiveness.

He also made a critical tackle which prevented a touchdown. Cordell Davis was able to use his power to move the chains in big downs.

Dwiquillius Howard was a monster on the defensive line. Making his presence know with hard-hitting tackles knocking the Hornets’ opponent back for a loss.
