Bullock County Hornets on the line against Dale County.

This past Friday, the BCHS Hornets ghosted the Warriors of Dale County in a Region 2 4A matchup. The Warriors came in at 4-2 and a #2 spot in the region. The Hornets came off a tough loss to Abbeville last week, sitting at 2-3. The Hornets came in with fire in their eyes.

After receiving the opening kickoff, the Hornets put together a great drive with the running of Robert Williams and Jay'Markis Foster. Williams put the Hornets in scoring position on a 31 yard run to the Warriors 6-yard line. Four plays later, Williams found himself reaching pay dirt for the opening score, 6-0.

After the ensuing kickoff, the Hornets defense swarmed the field and forced Dale County fumble. This time, Williams hit Brandon Perry for a 28-yard touchdown strike, putting the Hornets up 12-0. Later on, the Hornets gained momentum on, what should've been, a 38 yard TD run by Robert Williams, but was called back for a penalty.

The Hornet defense stood strong most of the first half. Dale County put together and drive and punched in a score before the half. That made the halftime score 12-7 Hornets.

In the second half, it was much of the same; a pure defensive dog fight between the two teams. Once again, the Hornets thought they found pay dirt on a Brandon Perry run that was also called back for holding. The penalties hurt the Hornets.

Later in the fourth, with the Hornets backed up inside their 25-yard line, the luck struck for Dale County. The Warriors blocked a Robert Williams punt and the Hornets 12 yard line. Two plays later, the Warriors found themselves with their first lead of the game at 14-12.

In the latter of the fourth, the Hornets drove to the Warriors 13-yard line on a 33-yard pass to Brandon Perry. After a bobbled snap, the Hornets found themselves backed up to the Dale County 22 yards line.

After a few plays, the Hornets were at 4th Down and threw a desperation pass the was broken up. The game ended with a final score of Dale County 14, BCHS 12.

The Hornets will look to get back on the winning track as they travel to Ashford, Alabama, for a tangle with the Ashford Yellow Jackets. Game time is 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 8, 2020.
