To the Editor of the Union Springs Herald in reference to the banks of Union Springs: Amerifirst and Community Bank and Trust and their decision to close on Saturday.

The citizenry, the Chamber of Commerce, elected officials, the Bullock County Voters League, the working man, and last but not least, our churches depend on banks.

Case in point- we are told to SHOP AT HOME! SHOP AT HOME! Well, if we must go to the surrounding cities- Tuskegee, Troy, Montgomery, to cash our checks, chances are we'll spend our money there! Think about it, who gets the TAX?

Our fire department suffers, hospital, police department, all elected officials suffer while other surrounding areas grow.

AS A MOTTO OF THE BULLOCK COUNTY VOTERS LEAGUE SO STATES, "Let us make Bullock County a better place to live during our lifetime."

A humble member and past president of the Bullock County Voters League,

Theo Smith
