This year (2020) that just passed will be memorable to many. I am no exception. Among the memories will be another break-in to my old cabin on Hwy 223. We call it Rusty Top; Mrs. Betty Hartwig graciously included it in her many Union Springs and Bullock County illustrations.

Old Rusty Top has stood on that bluff for more than a century. I have owned it and enjoyed being there since 1978. Two additional generations of our family have joined me in work and recreation.

We have shared this asset with our friends and family over the past four-plus decades. Rusty Top has withstood all the storms that have come in the 150 years but now is under attack by an element of society out of control in Union Springs Al.

Three times in the past 12 months, unlawful entry and destruction of property has been found. One additional attempt failed.

Oh, how the society in USA has deteriorated; it’s shameful! And dangerous as well. The three events just mentioned are but half of the total times, I have been violated in this way over the years.

I am more than frustrated by the lawlessness and lack of law enforcement that exists.
