Our most gracious Heavenly Father welcomed Wilbur (Sonny) L. Hall, Jr. (77) into His presence on Wednesday, August 5, 2020, surrounded by his wife, Ena Hall; daughters, Lynn Cox (Tim), Heather Gaston (Harvey) and Sara Ketcham (Jason); special brother, Johnny Butler (Jackie) and brothers and sisters in Christ.

A deacon at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Ramer, AL, Sonny sang in the choir and ran the annual BBQ fundraiser selling his famous camp stew.

Sonny was known for his strong work ethic serving 37 years as a lead lineman for Dixie Electric Co-op before retiring to golf course maintenance cutting greens most recently at Aroostook Golf Course.

Sonny was competitive and loved playing golf and softball, coaching baseball and softball through the years and cheering for the University of Alabama and Troy University football teams, where his oldest grandson played from 2016-2019. In his free time, he would hunt and fish and was known for planning a good fish fry.

In his younger years, he continued his father’s tradition of making homemade cane syrup on the family farm. Sonny was born and raised in Bullock County, the son of the late Wilbur L. Hall, Sr. and Lessie Hall. The only boy in the family, Sonny was preceded in death by older sister, Wilda Tharpe, and survived by Joy McKnight and one younger sister, Ann Jeltsch.

Other than his wife of 55 years and his three girls, Sonny loved his four grandchildren the most: J.L. and Emma Gaston and Sandralynn and Aubrey Ketcham. Sonny cherished time with family including his nieces and nephews and many cousins along with his church family.

We are honored to have Wilson Butler, Andrew Cantey, Robbie Singleton, Paul Dicks, Kenneth Capps, Terry Brooks and Rick Lewis as pallbearers.

We welcomed family and friends to a memorial service on Saturday, August 8 at 6:00 p.m. at the Livingston family property, 1058 Old Barnes Road, Mathews, AL 36052. Rev. Luke Finklestein, pastor of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, officiated. Guests dressed casually and practiced social distancing for everyone’s safety.

A private graveside service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 3828 Mt Zion Rd, Ramer, AL 36069. As Sonny would end each of his prayers: In Jesus precious name, Amen!
