Carter Funeral Home announces the peaceful transition of Mrs. Mary J. Blakely of Troy, Alabama. Mrs. Blakely, 81 transitioned into eternity, June 9, 2021 in Montgomery, Alabama. The Commemoration of Life began with a public visitation, Friday, June 18, 2021 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Carter Funeral Home.
The Farewell Celebration at Graveside was held Saturday, June 19, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. from Pleasant Grove CME Cemetery, Troy, AL. Attendees for all visitations and services are requested to wear appropriate facial coverings and practice social distancing guidelines.
Mary Jane (Glover) Blakely was born was born in Bullock County, Alabama on June 2, 1940 to Lee Hezekiah and Mary Ruth (“Surles”) Glover. She accepted Christ at an early age and served as a faithful member and usher at Pleasant Grove C.M.E. Church in the High Ridge Community of Bullock County, AL.
Her early years were spent working at Bonnie Plant Farm where she later retired from. Mary also spent many of her retirement years working as a devoted caregiver. She served as a faithful member of the Eastern Star (OES) Pearl Chapter #87. She loved working in the garden, going fishing and spending time with her family.
Mary Blakely transitioned from this life to abide in her eternal abode on Wednesday June 9, 2021 in Union Springs, Alabama.
She was predeceased by her husband Willie James Blakely, Sr. and son Terrell Blakely, both of Union Springs, AL; sister Lee Artis (Glover) Harris of Rochester, N.Y., and brother L.J. McGowan of Haines City, FL. Left to cherish fond earthly memories are her five children; Sharon Blakely of Union Springs, AL, Willie J. Blakely Jr. of Union Springs, AL, Tony Blakely (Ieshia) of Los Angeles, CA, Tanya Blakely McKinnon (Travis) of Union Springs, AL, Quintin Blakely (Marshall) of Union Springs, AL, thirteen grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and close friends.
