Max Wesley Kelly, 79, died March 15, 2021. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 18, 2021, 2:00 p.m., from Gray Funeral Home Chapel with Will Newton and John Emfinger officiating.
Burial will follow in Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with John Harden officiating and Gray Funeral Home directing. He was preceded in death by his mother: Foy Kelly; father: Cary B. Kelly; son: Cary W. Kelly and sister: Grace Lassiter.
He is survived by his sister, Jeanette Tompkins, many nephews and nieces as well as great-nephews and great-nieces. Max grew up in Union Springs and graduated from Union Springs High School in 1959.
After graduation, he entered the Marine Corps and served four years. In 1963 he returned to Union Springs and began a career in grocery retail that would span 37 years interrupted by four months selling insurance and working two years in a shipyard.
Along the way, he attended Auburn University and became an ordained bi-vocational pastor. He retired in 2006 and lived with his sister, Jeanette Tompkins, from 2015 until his death.
At the time of his death, he was under the care of Southern Care Hospice. A visitation will be held at Gray Funeral Home one hour prior to the service.
