Carter Funeral Home announces the peaceful transition of Mr. Joe Lewis Hooks native of Union Springs, Alabama. Mr. Hooks, 69 transitioned into eternity, June 25, 2021 at his residence in Fairfield, Alabama.

The Commemoration of Life began with a public visitation, Friday, July 02, 2021 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Carter Funeral Home.

The Farewell Celebration was held Saturday, July 03, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Faith Temple, 679 Brundidge Street Clio, AL. Pastor Tommy McCrae delivered the eulogy.

Attendees for all visitations and services are requested to wear appropriate facial coverings and practice social distancing guidelines. Joe Lewis Hooks was born on March 7, 1952 to the late Mrs. Lillie Mae Hooks and Mr. Willie James Hooks.

Joe confessed Christ at an early age and joined Faith Temple in Clio, Alabama. He enjoyed an eighteen-year career with Bonnie Plant Farm in Union Springs, Alabama. Joe enjoyed and had a love for cooking and catering. He was a very good man and would not mind helping those he loved.

Joe departed this life on Friday, June 25, 2021 in Birmingham, Alabama. He was also preceded in death by four sisters, Carrie, Brenda, Lillie B. Hooks, and Odessa Shell; and three brothers, John L. Hooks, Willie Bernard Hooks, and Madison Hooks. Joe leaves cherished memories to his devoted wife, Savannah Hooks; lovely daughter, Cassandra (Melvin) Grooms of Union Springs, AL; two sons, Marcus Cowan of Atlanta, GA and Otis (Sonya) Smith of Birmingham, AL; three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, one sister, Mae Bell Holley of Tuskegee, AL; one brother, Larry Hooks of Columbus, GA; mother-in-law, Mary Lee Williams; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jimmy (Stacey) Williams, Tyrone (Juanita) Williams, both of Ozark, AL, Ralph (Renee) Williams, Brenda (James) Hooper, both of Clayton, AL, Nathaniel (Alicia) Williams of Enterprise, AL and Robert Williams of Miami, FL; God-daughter, Tutu Davis; along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends including his special friend, Jeffrey Woods.
