Carter Funeral Home announces the serene transition of Ms. Bertha Maddox on June 18, 2021. Surrounded by the comfort of her caring family, Ms. Maddox, 73, of Union Springs, Alabama completed her earthly tenure in Birmingham, Alabama.
The Commemoration of Life began with a public visitation, Saturday, June 26, 2021 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Carter Funeral Home. Farewell services at Graveside was held Sunday, June 27, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at the Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Cemetery.
Pastor Hawthorne Reed of the Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church rendered a message of comfort and acceptance. Attendees at all visitations and services are requested to wear appropriate facial coverings and practice social distancing.
Bertha Dean Maddox was the oldest of nine children born to the late Jimmy and Minnie Lee Maddox on January 6, 1948 in Union Springs, Alabama. She accepted Christ at a young age and was dedicated while serving the Lord until her health failed.
On June 18, 2021, she transitioned into eternal rest surrounded by her loved ones. She was preceded in death by her parents Jimmy and Minnie Lee Maddox. Sister, Carrie Maddox, Daughter, Adrienne Balkcom, and Aunt Mary Pearl Thornton.
She leaves to cherish memories a loving family: son Corey (Latricia) Balkcom; daughters: Elisha Maddox and Tanisha Maddox; sisters: Gloria (Robert) Tarver, Mamie Maddox, Alice Freeman Union Springs, AL and Jeanette Maddox Newark, New Jersey; brothers: Jimmy (Frankie) Maddox, Union Springs, AL, Alvin Maddox, and Jerry (Susan) Maddox, Montgomery, AL, Danny Lane, Huntsville, AL; twelve grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, and a huge extended family, and special friend Renee Cooper.
