Carter Funeral Home announces the transition of Mr. Robert James Rodgers of Union Springs, Alabama. Mr. Rodgers, 85, transitioned into eternity, Thursday, May 5, 2021, at the Southern Springs Healthcare and Rehabilitation Facility.

Mr. Rodgers was employed in Miami, FL until his retirement. Upon retirement, he returned to Alabama to enjoy his hometown and rekindle fond memories. The Commemoration of Life began with a public visitation, Friday, May 14, 2021, from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Carter Funeral Home.

The Farewell Celebration at Graveside was held Saturday, May 15, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. from the Fellowship Baptist Cemetery of Midway. Pastor W. J. Glover of Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church delivered the eulogy. Attendees for all visitations and services were requested to wear appropriate facial coverings and practice social distancing guidelines.

Mr. Robert James Rodgers was born April 4, 1936, in Union Springs, Alabama to the late James and Ruby Rodgers Robert gave his life to Christ at an early age. As a 19-year-old, Robert moved to Miami, FL, and began his career at Georgia Pacific Corporation.

After 42 years of service, he retired in 1999 and returned to Alabama to enjoy his hometown and rekindle fond memories. Robert enjoyed cooking and telling stories of his childhood and other life adventures. Robert will always be remembered as being a man of many words and be outspoken.

He was loved by many. Mr. Rodgers transitioned into eternity, Thursday, May 5, 2021, at the Southern Springs Healthcare and Rehabilitation Facility. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Luella Henry, Shannon Rodgers, and his son Robert Blue.

His loving memories will be long cherished by his loving wife, Vater Clemons Rodgers of Miami, FL two sons, Allen (Barbara) Lampley, Union Springs, AL and, Derrick (Maria) Rodgers, of Atlanta, GA; seven grandchildren, Felicia, Kizzy, Brian, Terrence, Kristie, Jordan, and Logan; along with numerous great-grandchildren, cousins including two devoted cousins, Cedric King and Gary Lampley and numerous friends. The Staff of Carter Funeral Home was honored to be selected to provide End of Life Services for the late Mr. Robert James Rodgers.
