Marie Cobb Bryant was born December 15, 1925 to the late Johnnie L. Cobb and Georgia Caldwell Cobb (delivered by midwife, Rosa Farmer Cobb) in Midway, AL. To this union 10 children were born. At the young age of 11 she joined Great Hope A.M.E. Church under the leadership of Rev. E. D. Williams. Marie attended Great Hope Junior High School.
In 1944, Marie married Jasper Jackson. In 1948, she moved to East Chicago, IN and joined St. Mark A.M.E. Church under the leadership of Rev. T. J. Tipps.
She sang in the choir, worked in the Sunday School and Willing Workers Club. She was employed at Calumet Laundry and Dry Cleaners; her starting salary was $.55 cents an hour.
She also worked at Porter Laundry and Dry Cleaners until 1980, making up to $5.00 an hour.
In May 1962, Marie married Robert Forte and joined Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. J. C. Wade, where she taught Bible Class.
In 1977, Marie married James Bryant. They moved back to Great Hope and reunited with Great Hope A.M.E. Church under the leadership of Rev. R. Neal. She served faithfully wherever she went. Whenever she would testify she would end by saying, " If I've done anybody wrong, please forgive me, cause I love everybody".
Marie was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, James Bryant; siblings: Eddie Cobb, Bertha Smith, Johnnie L. Cobb, Rosa B. West and Easter Thomas; step-siblings: Lillie Arnold, Willie Washington, Ella Arnold and Viola Green; and her loving step-mother, Daisy L. Cobb.
She leaves to cherish her memories; siblings: Lillie McClain, Richmond, TX, Tommie West, Gary, IN, Maggie Paige, Williamson, WV, Mary Williams, Columbus, GA, Jethro (Mattie) Cobb, Haines City, FL, Jonathan (Shirley) Cobb, Birmingham, AL, Carrie Harris and Daisy M. Cobb of Midway, AL; oldest niece Charlotte "Mae Pop" (Charlie) Washington, Gary, IN.
Step children: Katherine Richardson, Karen Anthony, Sharon Bryant, Valerie Bryant, Theresa Bryant, Lisa Mason, Wille (Ola) Forte; Grandson: Tyrone (Winifred) Chatter.
In Laws: Rufus (Vera) Chatter, Annie Ruth Taylor, Betty & Webster Bryant, Hattie Clay and Paul Bryant.
She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, God-children and friends.
