Ronald (Ron) Travis Lee

Ronald (Ron) Travis Lee

Ronald (Ron) Travis Lee, “Pop,” 73, died peacefully on April 11, 2021, in Montgomery, Alabama, with his wife Elizabeth Anne Lee by his side.

Ron was born November 12, 1947, in Gadsden, Alabama, and was the only child of Marie and Jim Lee. He is survived by his wife of 15 years: Anne; his daughters: Dawn South and Christine Cooner; his son: Michael Lee; his stepdaughter: Laney Gulledge; his stepsons: Ed Parrish, Brent Medearis, and Matthew Medearis (he would protest the use of “steps” because he loved them all as his own). Ron is also survived by 12 grandchildren; 2 great-grandsons and 1 great-granddaughter.

Ron discovered his passion for preaching when he was 17 at Weeden Heights Methodist Church. He studied Theology at Emory University and Auburn University. He ministered for over 50 years across the state of Alabama and parts of Georgia. He tried retirement several years ago, but his love for the church and his passion for sharing God’s Word was too strong to resist. He continued to preach until just a month before his passing, only stopping when he was physically unable. Preaching was just one of the many ways Ron inspired others; he was also a teacher and a coach. In addition to his degree in Theology, in 1970, he earned his degree in English from Florence State University (University of North Alabama). He taught high school math and science as well as coaching football, men’s basketball, and women’s basketball. He would lead many of those teams to state championships, but more importantly, he would share how much each of those kids meant to him. He loved his work, he loved his family, and he loved those he served. He also loved fishing, boating on his pontoon, and having way too much food at Thanksgiving. He was proud of his family and never missed an opportunity to brag about them. His favorite times were those quiet moments on the lake with his kids and grandchildren or sitting on the porch with his pipe and his beautiful bride by his side.

Visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 14, 2021, at the Washington Street United Methodist Church in Eufaula, Alabama, with the service immediately following with Rev. Charlie Newman officiating. Burial will follow in the Clayton Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest next to his former wife, Elaine Tew Parrish Lee. Chapman Funeral Home of Eufaula directing.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Washington Street United Methodist Church or the Petrey United Methodist Church, 10750 Petrey Highway, Petrey, Alabama 36062.
