Carter Funeral Home humbly announces the transition of Mr. Louis "Pops" Bowens, 63, of Tuskegee, Alabama. Louis, a native of Midway, Alabama transitioned into eternity on November 1, 2020 in Tuskegee, Alabama.
Celebration of Life Services and Interment was held Saturday, November 7, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. from the New Mt. Silla Missionary Baptist Cemetery of the Comer Community.
Pastor James E. Person of the New Mt. Silla Missionary Baptist Church will render words of comfort and acceptance. Public visitation was held Friday, November 6, 2020 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Carter Funeral Home. All visitations and services will be conducted exercising prescribed social distancing protocols, including the requirement that all attendees were facial coverings.
Mr. Louis Bowens, affectingly known as “Man” by the family was born to the late Ms. Cora Bell Bowens and Mr. Joseph Smith, Sr. Louis was educated in the Bullock County Public School System. He was a proud high school graduate of the class of 1978.
After completing high school; Louis relocated to Montgomery, AL. where he lived for many years. He later settled in Atlanta, GA before returning to his roots in Midway, Al. Louis accepted Christ and was baptized when he was a youth.
Louis was a faithful member at Oak Grove Baptist Church for many years. Louis later united with New Mt. Silla Baptist Church, Midway, Al. where he was a regular attendee until he moved to Tuskegee, Al. Although he remained a member of New Mt. Silla Baptist Church until his death; he often attended Mt. Nebo Missionary Baptist Church, Tuskegee, AL. with his niece (DeSheila) and her family until his health prevented him from no longer physically attending.
Mt. Nebo Church Family ensured that Louis stayed current with the weekly Sunday school lessons by having a Sunday school book delivered monthly to him. Louis was short in statue and soft spoken but when he led prayer during devotion and sometimes alter call he would stir the souls of the entire congregation with his fervent prayers.
Louis transition to his heavenly home on 11/01/20 at Magnolia Nursing Home, Tuskegee, AL. Louis is walking around Heaven with no more pain, no more suffering, and tears of joy as he meet his Almighty Savior and reunite with love ones who proceeded him in death.
Louis heavenly reunion includes: Parents: Ms. Cora Bell Bowens, Mr. Joseph Smith, Sr. Mr. James A. Bowens (Brother) and Mickey Ford (Brother-n-law). Louis memories and spirit will fondly live on in the hearts of his children: Christopher Bowens (Montgomery, AL), Anthony Bowens (Auburn, AL.), and Alonzo Bowens (Montgomery, AL.).Sisters: Arttie B. Grooms, and Ozzie B. Bowens, Ethel Lee Ford, (All of Midway, AL.), Julia (Earnest) Bowens- Simpson (Chicago, IL.), Annie Bell Smith (Haines City, Fl.), Brothers: Curtis C. Bowens (Ontario, Canada), and Joseph (Gloria) Smith, Jr. (Haines City, FL.) A dedicated niece/caretaker, DeShelia (Fred) Buchanan, Tuskegee, Al and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
