Carole Ann Sweeney Dawson, 76, of Banks, Alabama, passed away August 12, 2021, at her home surrounded by her husband and sons.
Visitation was held Sunday, August 15, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. from the sanctuary of First Baptist Church of Union Springs. Funeral services followed at 3:00 p.m., with Dr. Bill Cannon officiating. Burial followed in the Indian Creek Church cemetery with Gray Funeral Home directing.
She was survived by her husband of 57 years, Clifford Dawson; two sons, Adam Dawson (Cathy), Daniel Dawson (Shasta); five grandchildren: Marley Dawson, Taylor Dawson (Kayla), Ali Dawson (fiancé, Tristen McQuagge), Cole Dawson (Savanah), and Dannah Kate Dawson, and two great-grandchildren: Briar and Brynlee Dawson. She was preceded in death by her parents: Herschel Sweeney and Doris Pickett, and grandson, Weston Dawson.
Carole Ann was born in Memphis, Texas. Being the oldest of five children, she was instrumental in helping raise her younger siblings, Mary Nell, Roger, Mackey, and, Susan while her mother worked multiple jobs. When she was twelve, her family moved to Guam, where her step-father was stationed in the Navy. Upon returning to the states, the family made their home in Smuteye, Alabama, where she met the love of her life, Clifford Dawson while attending Indian Creek Baptist Church.
Following graduation from Bullock County High School, she and Clifford married on June 13, 1964. When their first son started school, Carole Ann began her working career in the insurance business, later with a local gas company, followed by a lengthy employment with the Amerifirst Bank, where she held several positions and retired from the loan department in 2015.
Carole Ann was a devoted wife, mother, Gran, sister, and friend. In her free time, she enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren play sports, cooking and baking, reading, and shopping, especially for antiques and blue and white collectibles.
She was an active member of First Baptist Church, where she was involved in the Joy Sunday School class, WHEELS group, Women on Mission, and multiple mission trips. Memorials can be made to Conecuh Springs Christian School or First Baptist Church carpet fund.
Pallbearers were Lee Dawson, Neal Dawson, Todd Sweeney, Stephen Perdue, Greg Woods, and Mark Woods.
