Carter Funeral Home announces the peaceful transition of Mrs. Susie Mae Townsend, 69, of Union Springs, Alabama. The Commemoration of Life began with a public visitation, Friday, January 7, 2022, from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Carter Funeral Home.

The Farewell Celebration was held on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. on the front lawn of the Haynes Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Union Springs, AL. Pastor E. C. Jasper delivered the message of comfort. The service was live-streamed.

Interment followed in the Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Cemetery. Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, cousin, and friend went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 24, 2021, at Southern Springs Healthcare in Union Springs, Alabama. Susie was born December 16, 1952, in Union Springs, Alabama, to Frazier and Ethel Townsend. She joined Haynes Chapel Baptist Church at an early age.

She worked a few jobs in her earlier years and later dedicated her life to taking care of her children and grandchildren. Susie Mae had a smile that would light up any room. She always had a smile on her face and a good joke. She loved life, family, and friends. Susie was a woman of great faith and loved the Lord. She leaves to cherish her memories, two daughters, Yameika, Jamila; one son, Tywon Townsend, Union Springs, AL.

Eight grandchildren, Asia, MJ, Edmshia, Amarion, Tamiya, Aurbrianna, Gaebrianna, and Jeremiah Townsend, Union Springs, AL. Two sisters, Brenda Townsend and Annie Pearl (Jerry) Wilburn of Saginaw, Michigan. Six brothers, Frazier (Katie) Townsend, Willie James, Sammie (Melinda) Townsend, and Richard Townsend, Saginaw, Michigan. Milton (Catherine) Townsend of Duluth, Georgia and Stanley (Jackie) Townsend of Union Springs, Alabama. Sisters-in-law, Wilma Weems and Beatrice Townsend of Saginaw, Michigan. A special niece, Shirley (Frederick) Jackson of Saginaw, MI. One aunt, Louise Weems Lee of Saginaw, MI. A dear friend, Lizzie Pickett of Saginaw, MI.

Too many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends to name, who all loved her dearly. At heaven’s gate, awaiting Susie are her parents, Frazier and Ethel Townsend, sons Bernard and Aberdean Townsend, sisters and brothers, Willie Weems, Annie Will, Curtis, Margaret Townsend, and Bobby Newby.

In accordance with recommended COVID-19 Protocols, all attendees were requested to utilize appropriate facial coverings, maintain social distancing, and minimize physical contact. The Staff of Carter Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the Final Life Celebration Arrangements for the late Mrs. Susie Mae Townsend.
