Ethel Gholston

Ethel Gholston - was born in Inverness, Alabama and grew up in Fitzpatrick, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her parents Ethel Bristow and Robert James Gholston, three brothers Robert James Gholston, Jr., Joe Clifford Gholston and Warren William Gholston. She is survived by her sister Alma Gholston Galloway, five nephews Thomas Marlowe Galloway, Jr., J.D., Robert Michael Galloway, J.D. (Annie Hunter), Joseph Warren Galloway M.D. (Lee Ann), Van Coleman Gholston, J.D. (Carolyn), William Garland Gholston, D.V.M. (Kathy) and many great nieces and nephews.

She graduated from Auburn University in 1949 and was a member of Kappa Delta sorority. She taught school in Opelika, Alabama for four years then moved to Mobile, Alabama. She taught and was later an administrator at Julius T. Wright School for Girls the entire thirty two years that it was in operation. She held two master's degrees from the University of South Alabama.

She was a longtime member of Dauphin Way United Methodist Church where she served on numerous committees throughout the years. She was made an Honorary Steward.

She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, the retired teachers association of Mobile County, the Century Book Club and volunteered at the History Museum of Mobile.

There will be a private family graveside service at Old Spring Hill Cemetery at 10:00, Wednesday, June 29th followed by a celebration of her life at Dauphin Way United Methodist Church at 11:00 with visitation following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Dauphin Way United Methodist Church. Arrangements are by Ascension Funeral Home, 1016 Hillcrest Road, Mobile, Alabama 36695.
