Carter Funeral Home announces the transition of Mr. Melvin Hix, Jr. 86, of Montgomery, AL. Mr. Hix transitioned into eternity on February 28, 2021, at Jackson Hospital. Mr. Hix, a retired mail carrier with the United States Postal Service was also a retiree of the United States Air Force.

Celebration of Life Services and Interment were held Friday, March 5, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. from the Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. Pastor Namon Goff delivered the message of triumph.

Public visitation was held Thursday, March 4, 2021, from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Carter Funeral Home. All visitations and services were conducted exercising prescribed social distancing protocols including the use of appropriate facial coverings.

A Time to Be Born: Melvin “Skip” Hix, Jr., was born March 11, 1934, to the late Melvin Hix, Sr. and Carrie B. Ellison Hix in Phenix City, AL. A Time to Serve: Melvin gave his life to Christ at an early age and joined the Mt. Silla Missionary Baptist Church in Union Springs, AL and later united with True Light Baptist Church in Denver, CO until he relocated back to Alabama in 2019. Melvin a retired mail carrier with the United States Postal Service was also a retiree of the United States Air Force. A Time to Love: In April of 1975, he was united in holy matrimony to Annie Doris Lee Hix. A Time to Die: Melvin answered the call from God on Sunday, February 28, 2021.

A Time to Mourn: Melvin was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Henry and Anderson; two sisters, Martha Jean and Rose.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Annie Doris Lee Hix; son, Jeffery Copeland; two daughters, Patricia Cobb and Tanya Faniel; four grandchildren, Rashawn (AT) Harris, Kentavia Townsend, Tashia Copeland and Akilah Copeland; ten great-grandchildren, Raquan, Kyran, Kylee, Martravion, Marnesha, Marcedes, Nahjell, Eve, Ezekiel and Gabriel; brothers-in-law, Willie Clyde Lee, Robert Earl (Mary) Lee, Earnest (Brenda) Lee and Crawford (Liz) Lee and Harold Hall who is also his best friend since childhood; sisters-in-law, Bernice Ingram and Dianne (Rev. Namon) Goff; special niece, Tangenika (Thomas) Queen, and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who shared in the love of Melvin “Skip” Hix, Jr.
