At the Bullock County Commission meeting on July 12, 2021, Commissioner John McGowan opened the discussion regarding the "Courthouse roof specs to be used to bid on the Bullock County Courthouse roof and spires job."
Commission Chairman Alonza Ellis, Jr. stated that the county commission approved Schneider Electric to repair the courthouse roof. He asked County Attorney Johnny Waters if the commission would violate if they bid out the roofing job with another vendor.
Attorney Waters stated the commission could be in two contracts for the same job at the same time, and he advised against this because this could put the commission in a legal predicament. Commissioner John McGowan stated the county needs to move forward and entertain bids for the roof repairs.
Commissioner Johnny Adams said the roof needs to be repaired because it is a safety issue for citizens and employees in the courthouse.
Commissioner Solomon Marlow, Jr. stated this issue needs to be addressed because this has been an ongoing discussion since he took office in November 2020 and suggested a work session to discuss courthouse issues.
Commissioner McGowan made the motion to bid out the courthouse roof repairs, seconded by Commissioner Adams. The motion carried.
As of August 24, 2021 the roof repairs have been bid out and accepted.
