Roland Vaughn with Vast Solutions, gave an update on the newly installed LED lighting system at the Bullock County Commission meeting on July 12, 2021. He stated the jail and roads/bridges building were completed, and the courthouse is near completion.
He noted that the commission office (in the building behind the courthouse) wiring system is outdated and not in compliance and that the building poses a huge liability to the county. He wants the County Commission to upgrade the electrical and the LED systems at the cost of $29,290.
Patrick Smith, County Administrator, asked if the county would have to bid out the upgrades.
Johnny Waters, County Attorney, stated that the current contract is $47,767.25, and if the county approved the upgrade, the total contract would exceed the public works law threshold of $50,000, and it would have to be bid out.
Attorney Waters recommended that the vendor complete the job before executing any upgrade/change order. He recommended making the electrical system a separate contract.
Bullock County Engineer DeShazo stated the county would need a contract with a certified electrical technician. Commissioner John McGowan stated that the county needs to get the building up to code and comply with state regulations. No action was taken at this meeting.
