The manager of the Union Springs Nutrition Center, Terri Bean, hands out lunches to senior citizens every weekday in the drive-through in the parking lot.
On September 30, 2020, she also distributed kits containing items for use in this COVID-19 pandemic. These were delivered to the Nutrition Center by Ray Scott, Director of Bullock County Emergency Management Agency.
The kit was a tote-bag with "Alabama Department of Public Health" imprinted on the bag. Each bag contained two face masks, a pair of disposable gloves, a package of antibacterial wet wipes, and a bottle of antibacterial hand sanitizer.
In addition to the lunches distributed by Manager Bean, she also distributes pages of hints for healthy eating, simple physical exercises, mental exercises of creatively coloring scenes on pages, and finding a list of words in a puzzle of letters of the alphabet.
The words can be found in any direction in the multitude of letters.
While the Center is closed for in-person activities and eating, County Commissioner Chairman Alonza Ellis, Jr. is overseeing the work of renovating the building. Work has been done on the roof and colors selected for painting the inside.
