Tracy Larkins, Director of the Bullock County Department of Human Resources (DHR), was a special invited guest to the meeting of the Women on Mission (WOM) of First Baptist Church on April 12, 2021.
WOM member, Vicky Hall, presented "Praying Hands" embroidered pillows she made to Tracy. WOM furnished the materials. As members and Tracy gathered around the pillows, Gail Barr, WOM president, prayed over the pillows that would go into the homes of foster children in Bullock County who are sponsored by DHR.
Tracy spoke about ongoing services of DHR, especially to foster children. The pillows were a Mission Action project of WOM for March that are symbols of caring about the foster children and show appreciation to the staff of DHR for all of their services to Bullock County.
The April mission action project is to continue to save change/coins in water bottles as a collective donation for water filters for Southern Baptist missionaries who serve in areas where the water is not safe.
A "Relay for Life Yard Sale", sponsored by the First Baptist Church, is scheduled to be held in the church driveway on Friday, April 30, 2021, at 8:00 a.m. The funds made from this will go toward the research and treatment of cancer.
The decision was made to re-open the church clothing room on Thursday, May 6, 2021, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
A report was given on cards mailed from WOM to the sick and bereaved, and names given for cards in April.
The emphasis of the two studies presented from Mission Mosaic magazine was "to be good stewards of our time." Cookie Tullos presented each with a notebook and pen to use while studying the Bible book of Ephesians from directions in the magazine.
The application of this study is to "use time each day" in praying and reading the Bible. It was suggested to read a chapter from the Bible book of Proverbs each day and "to entrust your time to the Lord."
Barbara Cope taught the Missionary/Prayer focus in presenting the service of a Southern Baptist medical missionary in Ghana of West Africa. She gave each member a tube of "Vaseline lip therapy for advanced healing."
She pulled items from a bag to use as visual aids as she spoke. The second part of the study was to teach the article about "A Sacrifice of Time" in praying without ceasing. This was about prayer in your war zone for the souls of men and women. Reading many verses from Bible scripture, she said, "Prayer puts us on the front line of the kingdom battle."
Names of missionaries with April 12 birthdays were read, and prayer was offered for them.
Present were members Gail Barr, Barbara Cope, Mona Crawford, Fay Duncan, Faye Gaston, Vicky Hall, Betty Story, Cookie Tullos, and special guest Tracy Larkins. No refreshments were served. Masks were worn and seating allowed for the proper distance between individuals during the COVID-19 pandemic.
