A new me in 2023!

Imagine a NOW HIRING sign for the new year, for a new you. What do you want to be in 2023? You get to decide. I don’t know about you, but there are areas in my life I can improve. Maybe you want to exercise more, lose weight, get organized, learn a new skill or hobby, live life to the fullest, save more money, spend less money, quit smoking, or spend more time with family and friends.

I saw one of my best friends yesterday, and he looked great. He has lost a lot of weight and looks healthy and happy. He has suffered health problems and has worked several jobs in the past few years. He is doing much better, and his happiness made me happy.

My friend’s transformation did not happen by accident. He set goals and worked to improve his health and happiness. The question is, how do you set goals and improve in life? When I was growing up, my father was in an Amway company. He would listen to motivational cassette tapes to inspire him to do well in his business. These motivational speakers help build the foundation for my life. After listening to these uplifting messages with practical success tips, my father encouraged me to set goals. He had me place short-term and long-term goals on the mirror in the bathroom. I accomplished every goal by the age of 26. There is power in writing down your vision and reading it every day. Do you have goals?

Do you have a vision board? What is a vision board? A vision board is more than a collage of pictures or a wish list. A vision board is a recipe for your life. Imagine a sweet potato recipe with no measurements or instructions, just pictures of ingredients and a perfect sweet potato pie.

Here are three tips for making an effective customized vision board.

1. Decide on Your Vision

My favorite book says we should write our vision and make it plain. Ask yourself what your goals/objectives are, and write down your goal. Next, you want to set a deadline for each goal and list all activities needed to achieve each goal. Organize each goal with a plan by priority and sequence and act immediately. You will need to work on your goals every day. Set up a way to measure your progress and reward yourself for that progress along the way.

2. Gather Your Materials

To make a vision board, you will need an actual board. You could use wire boards, whiteboards, magnetic boards, corkboards, or poster boards. You will also need images. These images can come from the internet, magazines, photos, postcards, or stickers.

3. Place Your Vision Board Where You’ll See It Often

You can put your vision board near your bathroom mirror, bedroom wall, or refrigerator. Wherever you place this daily reminder is up to you, but you need to see it several times a day. You may want to take a picture of the vision board and make it one of your screen savers.
