THURSDAY, JULY 1, 2021---Gasoline prices at three gas stations in Union Springs on Thursday, July 1, 2021, is $2.99 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline. Buying gas for travel for the 4th of July weekend would continue through Monday, July 5.

Gas prices in the United States surged to the highest level in 7 years ahead of the July 4th break, the highest since 2014.

As many as 43.6 million Americans would be on the road for the Independence Day weekend, and gas prices continued to soar. 89% of United States gas stations are selling regular unleaded gas for @$2.75 or more, compared to July 4, 2020, when only a quarter of gas stations were selling gas for more than $2.25.

The highest "recorded average price" was $4.114 in July 2008. Today, the most expensive gas is in Hawaii at $4.00 per gallon, and in California for $4.28 per gallon.

Gas prices in Alabama continued to climb, up $1 per gallon over last year. The current average for a gallon of gas in Alabama is $2.81, up from $2.80 a week ago, and $1.88 a year ago. The nation's gas prices climbed up to 2.5 cents per gallon from a week ago to $3.09. Prices are fueled by continued strong demand globally and production answering slowly.

According to UPI some stations won't have any gas to sell due to a shortage of delivery drivers with a bottleneck of rising demand and distribution.
