Sharon Barnes

By Felicia Farnsworth

Wednesday, August 18, 2021, started off like any other day. Sharon Barnes was helping with the distribution of the newspapers when she noticed an elderly gentleman, who was waiting for his wife, was beginning to slump over in the driver’s seat of his pick-up truck.

"I asked him if he was alright and he immediately replied no. I noticed he wanted to get out of the truck but was too weak to do so," stated Barnes.

The next decision Barnes made may have saved this gentleman's life. Barnes proceeded to locate his wife and gave him a bottle of water. After the paramedics arrived, we soon found out that the gentleman was a diabetic and his blood pressure was dangerously low.

Care Ambulance paramedics took him to Bullock County Hospital for further treatment. If not for her swift actions and her concern for the well-being of others, this morning could have ended in tragedy. Union Springs Herald awarded Sharon the Bullock County Good Citizens Award for her quick thinking and selflessness.
