Sidney Jernigan, a lifelong resident of Bullock County announces today that he will be a candidate for the office of Coroner for Bullock County in the upcoming Democratic Primary.

The Mount Silla Missionary Baptist Church family will celebrate the 4th Pastoral Anniversary of their pastor, the Reverend Fred Doulgas, Sr. on Sunday. The congregation and Rev. Gary Lewis of First Baptist Church will be their special guest.

25 Years Ago - 1995

The Dialysis Clinic, Inc. has opened in Union Springs. The Nashville, Tennessee based clinic is a non-profit corporation. Many of the county’s 20 plus dialysis patients have been traveling to Troy for treatment. The county commission has furnished that transportation.

Bullock County Coroner Thomas May has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Alabama Coroners Association. May was elected coroner of Bullock County in November.

Leslie Cole, 1995 Bullock County Junior Miss, won her choice of college granted awards from five colleges and universities in Alabama totalling more than $34,360 during Alabama’s Junior Miss Scholarship Program. Miss Cole plans to study pre-law at Troy State University.

Steve and Jennifer (Gaston) Rodopoulos announce the birth of a son, Stephen Dean, on February 28, 1995. Grandparents are Faye B. Gaston of Union Springs, Alabama and the late Jackie Dean Gaston, Sr., June Rodopoulos of New Port Richey, Florida and Peter Rodopoulus of Holiday, Florida.

50 Years Ago - 1970

Mrs. Benton A. Money was the hostess to the Fleur De Lis garden Club in her home on Thursday afternoon with eight members present.

Friends of Svc Wyman Roten will be glad to hear that he has returned to Union Springs after serving a tour of duty with the Armed Services in Vietnam.

Mrs. Sarah Richardson has been appointed a crew leader for taking the 1970 census, according to Manager George Drasheff of the census bureau’s office in Dothan, Al.

Two hundred and seventy one, including many out-of-town dignitaries in the Methodist Conference, attended Homecoming at the First United Methodist Church of Union Springs.

Lt. Col. D. D. Hall left Sunday for Korea after spending a ten day leave with his family at Fort Davis.

75 Years Ago - 1945

Mrs. Clyde Bryant and Mary Alice Bryan moved last week into an apartment in the home of Mrs. L. M. Mosely.

Mr. and Mrs. Graham Hixon recently received a letter this week from their son, Pvt Graham Hison, telling of his safe arrival in Dutch New Guinea.

The Business and Professional Women’s Club will sponsor a Paper Salvage Drive on Friday.

Mrs. Juliette Hixon, of Perote, is visiting relatives in this city.

Miss Sara Jean Sims of A.P.I. Auburn, spent several days last week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Sims.

100 Years Ago - 1920

The next Hog Sale will be next Tuesday and Mr. S. P Rainer, Jr., requests that all parties expecting to have hogs at this sale please notify him in advance as he wishes to be sure to have enough cars on hand to ship them.

Mr. H. M. Howard, formerly of this county, who now resides in Pike County, passed through the city Saturday, enroute to Peachburg, for a visit to the family of his father.

Mrs. C. W. Fenn spent Wednesday in Midway.
