Mr. and Mrs. William Dudley Cantey, III, of Fitzpatrick, are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Christy Diane to William Houser Davidson, IV.
Bullock County’s 2009 Junior Miss, Ellyssa Yanine Cobb, was a Preliminary winner at the Alabama Junior Miss finals held at Frazer United Methodist Church in Montgomery.
25 Years Ago - 1994
Tress Hall, Beth Barber, Stacy Chapman, and Sallie Evans were hosts this past weekend at Tress Hall’s home for a weekend of guests from North Alabama. Former classmates Katie Bean and Paige Montgomery were own and brought five guests with them.
The Green Thumb Garden Club met on January 18th at the home of Mrs. Joseph Davis. Mrs. Gene Combest, president, called the meeting to order. Nineteen members answered roll call by telling about their favorite diet tip.
50 Years Ago - 1969
NHA TRANG, VIETNAM - Frank H. Anderson, III, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank H. Anderson, Jr., 111 Hunter St., Union Springs, Ala., was promoted to Army captain during ceremonies near here December 18. The captain, an assistant safety officer of the 17th Combat Aviation Group near Nha Trang, entered the Army in November 1966 and was stationed at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, Calif., before arriving overseas in October 1968. He is a 1965 graduate of the Auburn (Ala.) University and received his commission through the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps program at the university.
Bama Sales was recently purchased by Albert H. Wilson. This business was formerly owned by Homer Rotton, located in Hinson Village Warehouse and will be relocated February 1 on U. S. 29 South in the building now occupied by Charles Arrington Grocery. Bama Sales is a wholesale distributor to stores in this area of paper products, school supplies, candles, notions, dry goods, toilet articles and drug sundries.
The next nine days will be chock full of excitement at Dixie Automotive Service and Dixie Tire Service. They are holding their Grand Opening and the public is cordially invited to inspect all of the facilities. The building has been completely remodeled with modern business offices and conference room and a comfortable lobby. Dixie Tire Service has been in operation for many years. Recently, the owners George L. Harden, Jr., and Billy Brabham purchased the building next door and remodeled both buildings. At that time they started a new enterprise, Dixie Automotive Service, to offer a new type service to Bullock Countians.
Mr. and Mrs. Derrell Powell announce the birth of a baby girl born Jan, 21 at Bullock County Hospital whom they have named Gwendolyn Kay. The baby weighed 6 lbs., 14 ozs.
Mr. and Mrs. Allison V. Barnett of Lubbock, Texas are visiting Mr. and Mrs. Henry Barnett and Dr. and Mrs. Hill Barnett at Fitzpatrick.
75 Years Ago - 1944
We are glad to see Mrs. E. A. Cameron “out” again after being “kept in” with flu.
The many friends of County Commissioner T. R. Pope regret to know that he ha been critically ill at this home at Smuteye for the past few days.
Sgt. Jesse R. Finlayson, who is with the U. S. Army at Sioux City, Iowa, has been spending a 10-day furlough with his family in this county.
