10 Years Ago - 2009

Former Police Chief for the city of Union Springs, Ernest Love, died Sunday in a Montgomery hospital. Chief Love was employed with the Police Department for 37 years and was chief for over 20. He is survived by his wife, Ernestine and children. His brothers and sisters are Curits Love, Eddie Love, Albert Love, Lucy Smith, Susie Calhoun and Olivia Butts.

City Councilman Saint T. Thomas, Jr., has earned the professional designation of Certified Municipal Official after completing 40 hours of Certified Municipal Official training conducted or endorsed by the Alabama League of Municipalities.

This year’s contestants for the Bullock County Junior Miss are: Tierra Goshay, Charity Glaze, Kendra Finney, Renita Holmes, Brooke Hansen, Aronda Turpin and Jordan Rump.

25 Years Ago - 1994

The Board of Directors of the American National Bank of Union Springs announces that Richard A. Walters has joined the bank in the position of Vice-President and Senior Credit Officer.

Beth Montgomery Long received her degree in Physical Education and Recreation from Troy State University. Mrs. Long is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Montgomery.

Pete and Dora Cole spent a few days recently golfing and sightseeing in Biloxi, MS.

Best wishes are sent to Martha Green, who continues to be a patient in Montgomery Regional Medical Center.

50 Years Ago - 1969

W. J. (Jeff) Sorrell has been named Alabama Conservationist of the year.

The Day Circle of the Missionary Society of Southern Methodist held its first meeting of the church year Monday at the home of Mrs. Billy Brabham. Fourteen members and one visitor were present.

Members of the Green Beret Club helped Jim Cole Celebrate his eleventh birthday with a cookout at this home on Saturday afternoon. Attending his party were: Bubba Green, Gregg LaMarque, Tracey Brooks, Andy Shaw, Terry Cawley, John, Frank and Charles Staples.

75 Years Ago - 1944

Sgt. Charles Archibald of Keesler Field, Miss., spent the week-end here with friends and enjoyed the many social events over the week-end.

Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Dixon have recently purchased the Varner residence, now occupied by Mr. and Mrs. K. M. Varner, Sr.

Miss Bonnie Bagley spent Sunday in Comer, Ala., with her sister, Mrs. G. A. Hart, and Mr. Hart.
