Seven members of the Chunnenuggee Garden Club of Union Springs attended the Christmas Tea at the Governor’s Mansion. Alabama’s First Lady, Patsy Riley, greeted the guests at the front door.
Jean Freeman, a former businesswoman in Union Springs, died Friday, December 26, 2008. Mrs. Freeman owned and operated Freeman’s Shoe.

On Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Jackie Gaston attended the Gaston Annual Christmas Gathering at the home of Mr. Gaston’s brother, Charles, and wife, Betty, in Athens, Alabama. The gathering is for Mrs. Nadine Gaston of Tuskegee and her children, their spouses, grandchildren and spouses, and great-grandchildren.
Margaret Adams and Jo Faust of Community Bank checked the gifts collected through the bank to be given to deserving children and adults. Employees with the bank wish to thank customers who helped make Christmas a little brighter for these individuals.

Miss Florence Rainer came over from Opelika and Miss Jean Rainer from the A.P.I., for the Christmas holidays with their parents Mr. and Mrs. Sterling Rainer. Misses Susan and Louise Rainer and “Buddy” Price Rainer coming in Friday night, from Montgomery, for the week-end.
Sunday afternoon the churches of the city united in a Christmas Service at the Presbyterian church. The Rev. J. C. Vickers conducted the devotionals and Miss Bessie Moore presided at the organ. Christmas carols were sung and the Rev. H. R. Miller, using the Visit of the Wise Men as his theme brought the message.
Eggs two days old make better meringue than fresh eggs.
Next Sunday evening at 7:30 there will be an Ordination Service for the three deacons, who are D. B. Beverly, B. L. Hamer and Dr. W. H. McCaslan, who were elected at the Church Session last Sunday. A cordial invitation is extended to the public to be present at this service.
Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Lawrence, of Roba, announce the birth of a son, on December 20th, whom they have named Thomas Fernwood.
