A newly formed alliance will present its first attraction downtown Union Springs. The alliance is named Union Springs Business Alliance and is headed by Melanie Short. The attraction of cars will be downtown on Prairie Street.

In commemoration of National Physical Therapy Month, Southern Springs Health & Rehab Center hosted a community-wide Health Fair on Friday. The fair was Southern Spring’s attempt to promote health and wellness through education and prevention.

Union Springs Elementary School celebrated Homecoming with its annual coronation. This year's theme, “Starlit Paradise,” was another success. Emari Blue and Edwin Rayborne, II, were crowned Mr. and Miss Union Springs Elementary School for the 2009-2010 school year.

25 Years Ago - 1994

Bullock County Commission Chairman John Will Waters today announced that Union Springs and Bullock County will soon get a dialysis clinic that will serve the needs of local dialysis patients.

The Forever Wild Land Trust has made its first purchase of land - a 1,546-acre tract in Bullock County rich in wildlife, habitat, and diversity. The historic vote, which was unanimous, came on October 28 during a meeting of the Forever Wild Land Trust Board of Trustees at the tract near Midway.

Micky and Rachel Johnson would like to announce the birth of an 8 lb. 4 oz. baby boy, William Michael, born October 13, 1994 at Edge Memorial Hospital, Troy, Alabama. He was welcomed home by his sister, Hannah. Proud grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Rutland, Jr. and Mr. and Mrs. Benny Johnson.

Mr. and Mrs. Norman Woody (Katrina Guthrie) of Harvest, Alabama, announce the birth of their son, Matthew Ryan, on October 21, 1994, at Huntsville Hospital in Huntsville, Alabama. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Guthrie of Union Springs, Alabama and Mrs. Shirley Woody of Phenix City, Alabama and Mr. Jack Woody of California.

50 Years Ago - 1969

The Carver High School faculty and student body are in high spirits this week for they are celebrating their “Homecoming” on October 25. This year’s event will be a spectacular with the “Marching Hornets” of Alabama State University, Montgomery, participating. There will be five other marching units helping to make this an enjoyable and historic event.

Mrs. Martha Paulk, wife of Representative James Paulk, today issued an invitation to the homemakers of Union Springs and Bullock County to a reception and tea on Thursday at the Elementary School. The guest of honor will be Mrs. Albert Brewer, wife of Gov. Brewer, and the State Representatives and their wives from four surrounding counties.

Damon Mills, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wallace R. Mills, was promoted to Army specialist five in Korea, where he is serving with the 2nd Infantry Division.

Mr. and Mrs. David E. Watson announce the birth of a baby boy born Oct. 20, 1969 in Baptist Hospital whom they have named John David.

Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie Arrington announce the birth of a baby girl in Bullock County Hospital on Oct. 18, 1969 whom they have named Jona Ruth.

Mr. Jerry Cope and children attended the football game at Auburn.

75 Years Ago - 1944

Greasing the inside bottom of a cooking vessel before water is added prevents rice, grits, and eggs from sticking.

Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Pritchett, Margaret and Walter motored to Montgomery Sunday afternoon.

The Chunnenuggee Public Garden Club will meet Wednesday at the home of Mrs. D. B. Beverly, with Mrs. R. J. Lawrence as co-hostess. The year books are ready and every member is urged to be present.
