10 Years Gone By - 2010

The Bullock County Commission presented Thomas Ritch an award for his volunteer work Monday morning at its regular meeting.

Patrick Williams and Patrice Williams, twins, were honored at the Bullock County Commission meeting. The brother and sister won first place in the Spotlight 21talent competition sponsored by the AME Zion Church at its 22nd Quadrennial Convention of Christian Education at Raleigh, North Carolina.

The Costons of Inverness, Alabama, recently held their family reunion in Columbus, Mississippi. The event was hosted by the Comers and Laws.

25 Years Gone By - 1995

Jason Smoker, son of Greg and Carolyn Smoker, will be participating in the Dixie Boys World Series in Troy, AL. There will be twelve teams playing in the series.

The new fire station across from the city hall is beginning to take shape. The new station will house three trucks.

50 Years Gone By - 1970

Alfred Foy (Pap) Cook, 42, a lifelong resident of Union Springs, died in a Birmingham hospital Thursday after a brief illness. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery with White Chapel of Montgomery directing. Pallbearers were Phil Richardson, Bobby Cohn, Sam Rainer, Frank Anderson, Don Parker, Sib Paul, Ray Graham, and Mack Varner.

Coach Chapman would like to announce a meeting of all the prospective football players from grades ten through twelve for all the County Schools: Carver, Merritt, Bullock County Tech, and Bullock County High School, to be held in the Carver High School Gymnasium.

More than 30 members of the family of Mrs. Livingston Paulk gathered for a reunion at the home of the James Paulks. A dutch supper consisting of barbecued pork and the trimmings was enjoyed by those present in the spacious backyard of the Paulk residence in Sardis.

Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Culpepper announce the birth of a 9 ½ lb baby boy born July 26, 1970, in Bullock County Hospital whom they have named Danny Len.

75 Years Gone By - 1945

Miss Nellie Bozeman and Mr. Gerald Bozeman have returned from New Orleans, La., where they visited their sister, Mrs. Herbert R. Chapman.

The regular monthly meeting of Bullock County Post No. 13, American Legion, will be held next Monday night at Jones Cafe. Supper will be served and each man will pay for his own plate.

Messrs. Bryant McLendon, Jr., and Billy McLendon have purchased the Adams Transfer Co.’s truck line, operating between Montgomery, Union Springs, Clayton, and Eufaula. The new owners began operation this week.

100 Years Gone By - 1920

Mr. G. T. Turnipseed, from near Fitzpatrick, who has been studying Veterinary Science at Auburn the past year, has been in Union Springs the past ten days, looking after the practice of Dr. J. S. Cook, during Dr. Cook’s absence from the city.
