Jinks, Crow, and Dickson law partners Lynn Jinks and Christy Crow were recently honored by Alabama Super Lawyers for their outstanding work in the industry. Jinks, who has been practicing law in Bullock County for many years was recognized as the 2010 Super Lawyer, and Christy Crow was recognized as the 2010 Alabama Rising Star.

Mayor John McGowan of the City of Union Springs joined an estimated 1500 municipal officials, clerks, and administrators in Mobile for the 75th Annual Convention of the Alabama League of Municipalities.

25 Years Ago - 1995

The Lighthouse String Ensemble will be in concert at Faith Independent Church on June 4. Performing will be Betty Adams, Mike Benton, Amanda Benton, and Mike Fortune. The concert will include instrumentals and vocal selections of gospel songs and hymns.

Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr., Chancellor of the Troy State University System, announced today that Tress Hall is the recipient of the Excellence in Leadership Award.

Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Chancey announce the birth of a baby girl, Anna Vail, born at Baptist Medical Center. Anna is welcomed home by her sister, Rebecca. Proud grandparents are Mrs. Wayne Chancey and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Vail.

50 Years Ago - 1970

Mrs. Lenora Carr Rainer announces the engagement of her daughter, Lee, to Lucian Clifford Evans, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Marias Tomkins Evans of Fitzpatrick.

Mrs. Jackie Gaston attended a maternity fashion show sponsored by the March of Dimes and Junior Woman’s Club of Montgomery, and the annual Carnival of Arts sponsored by the Montgomery Art Guild in Normandale.

Sandra Meredith, a student at Troy State University, was initiated into the Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society.

75 Years Ago - 1945

Miss Ethel Gholston is a recent addition to the personnel, of the First National Bank.

The Shopton Community held its regular meeting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Tompkins on Friday evening. Mr. J. M. Bolling, County Agent, was in charge of the program.

Miss Mary Ruth Kirkland entertained her classmates, the graduates of the Elementary School, with a Picture Show party at the Lilfred Theatre on Monday evening, which was one of the happy celebrations in this set. Popcorn was served before the show and later the young hostess carried her friends to a local drug store, for cream.

100 Years Ago - 1920

Mr. W. S. Deason, of Post Oak, was in our town Monday.

Mr. Lee Alley, of Midway, came up to the ball game Monday evening.

Mrs. Watt Jordan and Mrs. William Lee, spent Thursday in Midway.
