10 Years Ago - 2010

Union Springs First United Methodist Church was the place to be on Christmas Day. Over two hundred people were served delicious Christmas feast by the people of the church and community.

Despite the exceptionally cold weather, the eighty-first Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast at Old Pine Grove District Center on Monday was well attended.

During the Christmas season, the Bullock County Correctional Facility rallied together to make the season merry for others.

25 Years Ago - 1995

J. Alton Wingate, Chairman of the Board of Community Bank & Trust-Alabama, today announced the election of James D. (Jimmy) Phillips to the banks Board of Directors at the December 1994 board meeting.

John Will Waters chaired his final meeting as Chairman of the Bullock County Commision Monday morning at the regular meeting.

Mr. and Mrs. Ramond Lee Green of Union Springs, Alabama announce the birth of twins on January 4, 1995. Brady Christopher and Katie Elizabeth were welcomed home by their two and a half year old sister, Kacee.

50 Years Ago - 1970

Billy (Scope) Renfroe loves horses and evidently they love him by the way he gets them to perform in the shows that he enters. Billy has won the Alabama Horseman's Association State Championship two consecutive years in 1968 and 1969.

Mayor and Mrs. F. H. Anderson, Jr., had all of their children home for the holidays. From the University of Alabama was their daughter, Cathrine and Seth from Montgomery, Allen from Auburn, and Captain Andy Anderson from Ft. Monmouth, N. J.

75 Years Ago - 1945

There will be services on Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock at the Sardis Baptist Church Rev. J. C. Vickers will preach.

Mrs. Ed Farrior was hostess to the Saturday afternoon Bridge Club last week, having as guest players Mrs. F. W. Rainer, Mrs. Jake Bishop and Mrs. I .F. Blue. Mrs. Bishop was winner of the high score award. Afternoon refreshments were served.

Mr. and Mrs. J. Mac Varner announce the birth of a daughter, on Sunday, Jan. 7 at St. Margarets Infirmary, in Montgomery whom they have named Rebecca Eugenia.
