10 Years Ago - 2009

Bullock County Engineer Fred Hollon has announced that he will retire from his position February 1, 2010. Hollon has been an engineer for the County Commission since Jan. 20, 1993.

Bullock County lost another prominent figure and pillar of the community. Long-time County Commissioner Alonza Eills, Sr. Died Tuesday, December 8, 2009.

The Union Springs Nutrition Site was the location of the Chunnenuggee Public Garden Club’s “Every Light is a Prayer for Peace” Christmas program.

25 Years Ago - 1994

Tony Priori, son of Mr. and Mrs. Randy Priori of Union Springs, received a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science at Troy State Montgomery the fall quarter.

The Sunday Painters held their Christmas meeting at the home of Bill Mullins.

50 Years Ago - 1969

On Dec. 8, 1969, the fifth grade girls 4-H met at the elementary school. The president, Sally Richardson, called the meeting to order. Debra Mitchell gave the devotional on ‘celebrating the birth of Jesus.’ The secretary, Joy Mote, called the roll. Terry Priori, songleader, led the members in singing Christmas Carols. Miss Henderson asked each member to write an essay on safety for the next meeting. The club appreciated the calendars from the First National Bank.

Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Davis attended a dinner party last Wednesday night in Montgomery at the Montgomery Country Club. The dinner was sponsored by the First National Bank of Montgomery. Mr. Davis attended the Annual Bank Forum on Thursday.

The regular monthly meeting of the Day Circle of WMS of First Southern Methodist met Monday afternoon with Mrs. T. R. Cunningham as hostess.
