Football fans in Bullock County will be happy with the announcement that the University of Alabama Crimson Tide and the Auburn Tigers football programs can resume team training on June 8, 2020.

This is a voluntary "strength and conditioning" program that is essential before organized team practices begin.

This is a phased approach with step one coming with precautions because the health and safety of student-athletes, coaches, staff, and fans is the highest priority.

This is a transition period that allows student-athletes to gradually adapt to full training following this period of inactivity when organized college athletics ended in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The upcoming football season is slated to start on August 29, 2020.

During this "strength and conditioning" program to prepare for actual team practices, there will be precautions about the pandemic with "screening, testing, monitoring, tracing, social distancing and maintaining cleaned environments."

There will be input from public health officials, coaches, sports medicine staff, sports performance personnel, and student-athletes.

Best wishes from Bullock County fans go to Auburn coach Gus Malzahn and Alabama coach Nick Saban.
