Friday, the Hornets took on a winless Prattville Christian Academy Panthers team for the 2019 homecoming game. This will be their third win in a row after taking down rival Booker T. Washington (Tuskegee) and Beulah.

Last season, the Hornets lost to the Panthers 28-27 after being up 27-0 after the first half. Despite having two TD’s being taking away the Hornets made it up with two rushing touchdowns by Kendeous Owens at the end of those drives.

The Hornets running game completely tore the Panther’s defense. They put on a clinic from blocking by the O-line to Owens finding holes and open spaces for the endzone. Owens was completely a one man highlight rushing for five touchdowns. “He is our Lebron James. We go where he and the O-Line go.” said Coach Willie Spears.

Owens commented about playing against the Panthers, “We were talking to coach earlier and he explained how the seniors failed to win last year. They came out at the half 27-0 thinking they won and, they PCA, came back and won. I was thinking that we need to win the first quarter, second quarter, third quarter, and fourth quarter. Take it one quarter at a time and at the end of the day we won.”

The Hornets ran away with the win 41-6 as the final score. Coach Willie Spears had his postgame comments, “Last year I went in halftime and was relaxed, this time I made sure that did not happen. We had a facemask and they scored in their first drive but, we did not repeat what happened last year and that is awesome.”

The Hornets will have their chance to be playoff bound for the first time in school’s history against Southside Selma High School. The home game will kick off at 7:00 p.m.
