Courtney Woodfaulk, director of the Union Springs Recreation Department, made a request at the Union Springs City Council meeting on Monday, March 4, 2019 to change participation in football leagues from CAYFL to the River Region Youth Football and Cheerleading League.
This concerns the four football teams and four cheerleading squads in Union Springs in ages 5 and 6, 7 and 8, 9 and 10, and 11 and 12. Parents pay for uniforms and travel to play in five cities. City Councilwoman Debra Milan serves on the Recreation Department Board and is the liaison between this board and the City Council.
She requested a River Region representative explain to the City Council the benefits of changing leagues. The representative explained the whole view in detail and answered questions at the March 4, 2019 City Council meeting.
There would be a one-time registration fee of $700 from the city funds with no annual fees. There would be no charge for ID badges or parking.
In comparing the costs between the two leagues, there would be a savings to change to the River Region League. Woodfaulk said the City Council would vote on this request at its next scheduled meeting on March 18, 2019.
