On Friday, August 30, 2019 the Conecuh Springs Christian School Eagles opened their season against the Eagles of Cornerstone Christian to start the Labor Day Weekend. Both teams started the game with a blazing offense.
Both Eagle squads were also able to stop each other with key defensive plays forcing takeaways in pivotal moments. (Each team had three turnovers. Two in the first half.)
The Eagles of CSCS were able to click on offense with both the passing and the rushing game. At the end of regulation CSCS came out triumphant 30-26 as the final score.
CSCS tenth grader, AJ Taylor, was one of the key players for his team. He ended with two receiving touchdowns. “I just saw that they were playing me too close and I told my quarterback to ‘Just throw it up there and I can beat him.’ He and I have good communication skills. We’ve been working on that all off season,” said Taylor.
CSCS had three standouts that contributed to the Eagles’ running game: Cesar Bravo-Mota (10th grade), Richard Santay (11th grade), and Joseph Munoz (12th grade). Each of the three runners displayed the will to make big plays with all out hustle and the ability to make defenders miss. Santay and Bravo-Mota both got into the endzone. “Everyone on the team did good. We played our best. We're going to try to make it to the finals.”
The Eagles will be in another bird fight versus the Eagles of Brooklane Baptist in Hueytown on Friday, September 6, 2019. Kickoff starts at 7:00 p.m.
