A beautiful spirit has found eternal rest...... Carter Funeral Home respectfully announces the transition of Mrs. Mary Helen May, 82, of Fitzpatrick, Alabama on November 12, 2019.
Celebration of Life Services were Saturday, November 23, 2019 at 11:30 a.m. from the sanctuary of the Oak Grove Number 4 Baptist Church of the Shopton Community, Rev. George L. Wyatt, pastor. Interment followed in the Oak Grove Baptist Cemetery.
Mrs. May lay in repose at the church one hour prior to Celebration of Life Services. The family received friends at the church from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral hour. Public visitation was held Friday, November 22, 2019 from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Carter Funeral Home.
Ms. Mary “Sue” Helen May was born on February 25, 1937 in Bullock County, Alabama to the late Jack and Lillian Braswell. Sue was the fourth child out of nine children born in this union. At an early age, she confessed her life to Christ, at Oak Grove Baptist Church #4 until she was called home.
Ms. Sue graduated from Carver High School in Union Springs, Alabama. After which, she moved to Detroit, Michigan to start her career as a Steel Worker at Great Lakes Steel in Delray, Michigan. During her time there, she picked up the nickname of “Sweet” due to her love of making Sweet Potato And Egg Pies, that they fell in love with.
Ms. Sue dedicated over 20 years to Great Lakes Steel. She retired in 1997 and moved back to Fitzpatrick, Alabama where she lived the rest of her life to the fullest. Ms. Sue loved everyone in her own special way.
She left her earthly home for her heavenly home on Tuesday November 12, 2019 at Baptist East Medical Center in Montgomery, Alabama. Ms. Mary “Sue” Helen May leaves to cherish her memories to her 4 wonderful children: Valerie May, Detroit, MI; Vickie Mays (preceded her in death), Ernest May Jr, Fitzpatrick, AL; Ernie (Felicia) May, Detroit, MI; and Vivian Mays, Detroit, MI.
Four sisters Pearl “Mamie” Parks, Fitzpatrick, Al; A.D. Phillips, Marks, MS; Johnnie Coleman, Fitzpatrick, AL; and Rosa Ann McCall, Jemison, AL. Twelve grandchildren, Twenty-Seven great grandchildren, and Three great great grandchildren.
Special cousin whom she talked to at least twice a day Mary “Shug” Disnuite (Jessie).
Her special friends Ms. Marie “Sally” Jones who started her Facebook page and kept her laughing.
Her coworker who turned into family Jimmie Singleton who visited her at least once a year from Wayne, MI.
A host of nieces, nephews, adopted grandkids, relatives and friends that she loved dearly.
