Carter Funeral Home is humbled to announce the transition of Mrs. Annie Bell Owens, 80, of Montgomery, Alabama on August 6, 2019.
Services celebrating her earthly tenure were held Saturday, August 17, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. from the sanctuary of the Wayman Chapel AME Church of Union Springs, Alabama.
The eulogy was delivered by Pastor RonalD C. Smith. Interment followed in the St. Luke AME Cemetery of the Enon Community. Mrs. Owens lay in repose at the church one hour prior to Celebration of Life Services.
Public visitation was held Friday, August 16, 2019 from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Carter Funeral Home. Annie Bell Burkes Owens was born October 25, 1938 to Moses and Pansy Lee Burkes.
She confessed Christ at an early age and became the member of Saint Luke AME Enon Community and later became a member of Wayman Chapel AME Church where she served until her health failed.
She was united in marriage to Grady Owens, Jr. until his death on July 15, 2011. She is preceded in death by her father, Moses Burkes and mother, Pansy Lee Burkes; husband, Grady Owens, Jr.; son, Willie Lee Burkes; sister, Helen Tarver; brother, Moses Burkes, Jr.; and her loving granddaughter, Wakisha Babers. Annie Bell was a hard working woman in more ways than one. She worked many years and raised eight children.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her daughters: Pansy Moncrief and Chiquita Owens, both of Montgomery, AL., Louise Coretta (Lonnie) Arbuckle, Kennesaw, Ga., and Dotha Babers, Hayneville, AL.; her sons: Grady Owens, III., Albert Owens, and John Owens, all of Montgomery, AL.; 25 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; three sisters: Bernice Burkes and Darnella Mitchell, both of Columbus, GA., Elva Mae Calloway, Midway, AL.; one brother-in-law, Jimmy Owens, Union Springs, AL.; one sister-in-law, Rosetta Ivery, Cleveland, OH.; daughter-in-law, Linda Burkes, Columbus, GA.; love and respected niece, Sherry Burkes, Columbus, GA.; two aunts: Mattie Kendrick, Birmingham, AL. and Gladys Allums of Three Notch Community; a special cousin, Mack Birks; a god-son, Steve Tucker and god-daughter, Angela Barrows and family; and a very special son-in-law, Milton Babers.
