Archie C. Mote, Sr., 89, a resident of Roba, passed away in his sleep on Monday, January 13, 2020. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 17, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. from First Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Cannon officiating and eulogy by Chris Mote.
Burial will follow in Union Springs Perpetual Care Cemetery with Gray Funeral Home directing. Archie was born on May 27, 1930 in Jefferson County, Alabama. As a young boy, his family moved to Hardaway where he graduated from nearby Shorter High School.
He married Charlotte Curington on July 21, 1954 in Union Springs before serving in the U.S. Army where he spent 16 months in Korea. After his discharge, he continued to serve in the Alabama National Guard. Archie bought farmland and over the next 61 years he raised cows, chickens, goats and crops of cotton, soybean and corn. He also harvested lumber from his land.
Archie never retired from farming and continued planting a large garden until this year.
He enjoyed time with his family, farming, hunting, fishing, working on mission trips and watching westerns and Alabama football. He was an active member of First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Mote; three children: Lisa Mote-Beazley (Rusty), Chris Mote (Nancy) and Carol Mote Collins (Mike); nine grandchildren: Michael Mote-Patterson, Maegan Wilson, Murphy Mote-Patterson, Laura Collins, Morgan Cleary, Jessi Head, Michaela Hill, Mackenzie Tarpley and Emily Slay; 11 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Gray Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 16, 2020. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 507, Union Springs, Alabama 36089.
