Ida May Kirkland Collins, 86, a resident of Palm Harbor, FL and formerly of Tabb, VA, passed away peacefully at home with loved ones by her side on Friday, January 17, 2020.
She was born in Union Springs, AL on January 13, 1934. She graduated from Inverness High School in 1952 and Troy State University in 1955. Upon graduation, she worked for 40 years at NASA in Hampton, Virginia.
She was predeceased in death by her husband, Rudolph Collins; her parents, Charlie Lee and Maggie May Rotton Kirkland; brothers, Fred Curtis, John Frank, and Lawrence Allen Kirkland; sister, Mary Frances Kirkland Sedberry and Luvenia Adell Martin; and granddaughter, Amanda Breann Shoulta.
She has left many behind to cherish wonderful memories including her three children, Ronald Collins, Kirk Collins, and Brenda Lampasso; bonus daughter, Patricia Colquitt and family; grandchildren, Matthew, Katherine, and Kyle and bonus grandchildren, Jeremy, Paul, and Kaitlyn; her favorite Yankee son-in-law, Paul Lampasso and Caregiver Cynthia Bayyari who helped care for her over the past seven years and a brother, Lee Kirkland.
Many special thanks to all of the medical teams that cared for her over the years including Dr. Juan Falla and staff, and the Baycare Home Health team. While she will be missed, she will always be remembered for being the best Mom and Granny, coming up with fun and entertaining ways to educate because it was so important to her, and when she was well enough, attending every baseball and softball game to root on her grandkids. She loved to watch her sports on TV and as always ROLL TIDE.
When asked what her greatest achievements were she would always say her kids and grandkids.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Garnett officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery with Gray Funeral Home directing.
