Carter Funeral Home announces the transition of Mr. Robert L. Bennette, 81, of Montgomery, Alabama on January 23, 2019.
An honorably discharged veteran of the United States Army, Mr. Bennette passed away peacefully surrounded by the comfort of his family.
Celebration of Life Services was held Sunday, February 3, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. from the sanctuary of the Mt. Hillard Baptist Church of Banks, Rev. D Andrews, pastor.
Minister Paul Walker delivered the eulogy. Interment with military honors following in the Perote Cemetery. Mr. Bennette lay in repose at the church one hour prior to Celebration of Life Services.
Public visitation was held Saturday, February 2, 2019 from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Carter Funeral Home. Robert was born on January 22, 1938 to the late Eula Mae Johnson Thomas.
As an adolescent, he attended Perote elementary school. At an early age, Robert confessed and accepted Christ and joined Jones Chapel A.M.E Methodist church.
Robert joined the United States army and later graduated from Charles Henderson High school in 1972. Robert married Henrietta Bennette and together they raised three boys; Jergen, Kingston and Rodzettia.
After his separation from the United States army he served his community as a Police officer for Troy Police Department in Troy, AL. Robert then went on to be a correctional officer for Kilby correctional institution until retirement.
After retirement, Robert found enjoyment in fishing with his favorite cousin Georgia Mae Pittman. Robert also found much enjoyment in riding his motorcycle with friends, traveling and spending quality time with his family.
Robert leaves to cherish his memories a loving a devoted wife of 50 years, Henrietta Bennette of Montgomery, AL.
Three sons; Jergen (Tatanisha) Bennette, Kingston (Cicely) Bennette and Rodzettia (Tiffany) Bennette all of Montgomery, AL. One daughter; Nicole Barron. Three grandchildren; Adasia, Julian and Sydney. One sister Judy (Robert) Manno (New York, NY). Two brothers; Macarthur Thomas (Troy, AL) and Charlie Bennette (Atlanta, GA).
Four sister in laws; Rose Stephens (Cleveland, OH), Jettie (Johnny) Falk, Cassie (Rev. James) Johnson, Jessie (Rufus) Robertson. One brother in law; Henry Louis Johnson. A devoted cousin Georgia Mae Pittman.
A devoted nephew Benny and Valerie Thomas. A devoted niece Stacy Dubose. Special family friends; Jerome McGinnis, Bronco and Stacy Hamilton and Sherrel Hamilton. Classmates of Charles Henderson high school class of 1972 and a host of other nieces, relatives and friends.
